Technology is a nice word. For me, technology is a way of life. I was around when the "TEN KEY ADDER" was invented. Ah, what a wonder. Oh, and when they finally put MEMORY in a computer? The top of the line came with 4 meg, and we were told that would be enough to last us all our lives.
Let's see...television with a square screen, an electric toaster, percolator (we only had the old drip kind where you heat the water and put it in the top...a lot like what is used today??? oh progress what are ye?)..Kitchenaid mixer, teflon, 8 track tapes.
I'll never forget the first time I opened the box on a computer. NOTHING MOVED!!! and the guy said if something moved I reaaallly had a problem. (I've no idea what I expected, but THAT wasn't it.) And, writing all our own programs? Oh yeah, if you wanted to USE that box, you told it what to do.
(And then it told you NOTHING, and then you thought and thought until you figured out what you didn't tell it....lots of us talked about PADDED ROOMS back then.
Technology today? Cellphones, automobile engines, YouTube, 4 yr olds firing up the computer and doing it right.
My grandparents went from lanterns to light the center of the room to seeing a man on the moon. Technology?
In many ways, the only part of our lives that is clear of technology is our love and relationships with God, family and friends. Those still have to come completely from within us.
